She said the victim’s fingerprints were in the car and officers found a pistol at the scene.

Following her arrest, the victim’s parents said they decided to drop charges against him because they wanted to build “some kind of trusting relationship” with him and the entire family.

Cody Davison, 34, told investigators that he had just shot three men, killing one, who he believed had threatened him with a knife, and that he believed he was being watched and was holding the suspect’s gun until police arrived, court documents said.

According to court documents, at least two people in the car fled the scene, and Davison followed them into an alley, where he killed the victim by using a sawed-off shotgun and shooting him in the head.

The investigating officer later told an attorney from the family’s law firm, who is representing the family, that Davison “didn’t say a word and did not look upset” while he waited for officers to arrive, court documents said.

The victim’s parents, Gregory and Julie Davison, acknowledged to investigators that their son had shot and killed one of their sons and had admitted to detectives that he used a firearm and did not shoot anybody else, the court documents said.

“What they did was self-defense. We felt strongly in our hearts that they were not being watched,” said Gregory Davison, the father of the victim.

The shooting death of a man who authorities said was shot three times by a teenaged mother at her home and then killed herself prompted an inquiry into how the women were treated in a positive context in the wake of the case and the arrest of the teen.

Lismore Police Chief Scott King said it was unclear if a 24-year-old woman told authorities she was under the influence when she pointed a gun at the teenager, and whether officers actually saw any reason for that reaction.

The investigation led to the arrest of 21-year-old Brandon Kennedy on charges of second-degree murder and one count of use of a dangerous weapon while under the influence of a controlled substance.

He was charged with two counts of second-degree manslaughter and one count of reckless endangerment after shooting the 16-year-old suspect in the face and later attempting to use his gun as he attempted to flee the scene.
