Sarah Vine, the presenter of BBC1’s Countdown who fronted a string of acid poppers, made a cracking observation in her 2008 Twitter rant against the BBC, with the quote from the above snarky snark: “I like to think I’m funnier than most but if I started smoking crisps all the time I would have been very funny – nice to keep going.”

She did just that: grinning as she said the line before three of her BFFs, Mark Gatiss, Noel Fielding and Stephen Mangan, all rolled in to tell her off for becoming famous on an acid trip.

“I enjoyed being on the acid-fuelled set of Countdown, which was kind of amusing at the time but was not for me. I kept it just too quiet,” she recalled.
