Los Angeles Metropolitan Police Department Major Crimes detectives were looking into what led to a mall going into lockdown Wednesday morning.

It’s unclear whether anything was stolen from the security system as investigators were putting on tape and taking logs from the walls. Investigators taped off all entrances and exits to the Center Plaza shopping mall for more than 30 minutes as they continued with the investigation.

Police said that after two men got into a vehicle and drove off, one of the males fired a weapon while the second man drove away.

The shooting happened at 9:52 a.m. at the center plaza near Western Avenue and Olive Avenue in Hawthorne.

The man suspected in the incident has been identified as Brandon Jaramillo, 41, of Torrance.

Also arrested was Shari Nicole Gonzalez, 19, of Hawthorne.

Police said Gonzalez is suspected of stealing a vehicle from the parking lot while trying to get away with cash, car keys and other property.

Gonzalez is a known gang member.

Police said that after detectives got Gonzalez, he fired a weapon.

Jaramillo is a suspect in the case.

On Thursday afternoon, mall officials told KTLA all employees and customers were safe and would return to work.

A norovirus is believed to have caused the incident.

It was not immediately clear if any one of the two people injured in the shooting was a mall employee.

Jaramillo remained jailed on $10 million bail.
