A Maryland man has been arrested in connection with the shooting of his 9-year-old sister during a fight at a party the day before Thanksgiving, authorities said.

Bryant Hester, 29, was charged with first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree assault in the shooting Monday in Baltimore’s Greenmount area, Baltimore County police said in a statement.

Hester is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center, police said.

A family member called 911 and told police about the dispute that began inside the party around 9 p.m. Monday at a house on Greenmount Avenue in Greenmount, a dense neighborhood in northeast Baltimore, authorities said.

The argument spread to the street and when officers tried to pull Hester over, he led them on a chase that ended when he crashed his vehicle, police said.

Officers found a loaded handgun inside his vehicle, police said.

Police said that upon the officers’ arrival, they found Hester hiding in a backyard in the 17000 block of Holabird Avenue, more than two miles from the party.

Hester was placed into police custody and taken to an area hospital where his condition stabilized. Officers said he suffered some gun injuries and was cooperating with their investigation.

He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday, police said.
